Alisa's 40th Birthday Party!

This tuesday is my sister Alisa's 40th Birthday! Her husband Brian contacted me way in advance to help him plan a surprise party. I was in charge of the decor, Gina was in charge of the game, and my Mom was in charge of the treats with help from my other siblings. It was not easy to keep this all a surprise but i think we pulled it off wonderfully. She looked totally shocked!

I made the Happy Birthday banner a while ago and it set the tone for color schemes and the rest of the decor. I loved how it turned out.
I used the scraps from the banner to create the circle garland. I had my friend Emily from work sew them. I once saw on pinterest someone who had made a collage of photos to form a 50 on the wall. I loved the idea and decided to make one as well. I color treated the photos and added white borders to them for cohesiveness. I loved how this turned out as well. So fun to see my sister through all the ages of her life. She is a wonderful person, a great mom, and excellent sister. Happy Birthday Alisa!

Titanic 3D - Review - 4.5/5 stars

Valentines Day - What to do? What to do?

#1 My cute mom gave me a package that contained a popcorn bucket, two canned root beers, the movie princess bride and a verbal "ask someone out". So that was an option.

#2 One of my favorite shows "Cougar Town" was premiering its new season after a long break. So that was an option.

#3 Titanic 3D was having a free screening event at the Jordan Commons. That too was an option.

I went with option #3. My good friend Melissa Workman was able to pick us up the tickets. When we arrived we were happily given free popcorn and drinks. Oh and as we entered the theater we took note that every chair had a gift bag on them. Inside was a Titanic 3D tshirt and poster. How fun is that?

Where do you stand in regards to the movie Titanic? I was on my mission when it came out but even in Paraguay i heard all about the craziness and hype about it. I believe it was a few years later that all the sudden everyone began saying how bad it was. Hmmmm...interesting because i'm pretty sure everyone saw it multiple times in the theater and loved it. So what happened? My thoughts about the movie were that it truly was groundbreaking. The effects, score, acting, cinematography and all were top notch. I didn't completely believe the love story but there was so much more to enjoy that it was still a great movie. Seeing it in 3D on the big screen was just as amazing as it ever was in my opinion. I love how the movie exposed the raw emotions we as humans express in a situation of distress. The moment the ship hits the iceberg until the end of the movie is just simply amazing!

All in all it was a good choice for the holiday. I don't think the movie actually gets released until April but when it does, i say go see it again and don't be a hater.

a visit from Portland!

This past week we had a surprise visit from my brother Paul and his wife Amy and their two adorable kids. I was so happy to be able to spend some time with them. I was lucky enough to get a picture with Addie. And she even gave a smile!
And then there is this little guy Emmett. Biggest blue eyes i've ever seen. He looked like the perfect most handsome little man in his cute outfit and tie.

We were also lucky enough to hear Emmett speak some of his first words. Caught this one on video. "Basketball" with a lisp! Cutest ever!!!

Foodies - chocolate

Every month a group of us get together for what we call Foodies night. Each month has a specific theme that we use to cook food we've never made before. The idea is to experiment with new recipes and also expose us to new foods. We've done Italian, French, English, Indian, American, Irish and the list goes on. We've even had fun experiments with Carnival as the theme and Pies. This month in honor of Valentines Day we chose chocolate as the secret ingredient. We had chocolate chili, chocolate lasagna, roasted parsnip and white chocolate soup, chocolate sushi, chocolate mole taquitos, chocolate moose, and eclairs. YUM! It was all so delicious and Megs did a great job making her place look so fun and festive! Next month is based on the color Green. Should be interesting.

I made the eclairs! They were so good i made a second batch last night!

The Vow - Review - 1/5 stars

I also went to the screening of The Vow this week. Oh boy. Where do i begin. Let me first say that you might want to see the movie first before continuing to read. I don't want to upset any of the ladies who i know are dying to see this movie. My cute sister Gina has been wanting to see it since she first saw the trailer months ago. In fact she said it looks like everything you would want in a chick flick. Let me continue by stating that i am not one of those guys who hates all chick flicks. I can get swept away in the unrealistic romance as much as any of you girls. But here it is…this movie was dumb. And i mean capitol D U M B! I did not buy into their story one bit. Yeah, your supposed to like it because at the beginning it says its true. Well, that doesn't mean it makes for a good movie. Nothing played out realistically in my opinion. And Channing…wow, no personality. And stop mumbling. Oh and to the director, just because your working with an actor thats in shape does NOT mean that he sleeps in the nude on the couch the first day his wife is back from the hospital and has forgotten who he is. See…dumb! But if all you ladies need is a chiseled body to enjoy this movie, then have at it. Rachel McAdams, i like you. You're pretty and i've liked your movies okay but this script was awful. You're character was annoyingly self centered. I never thought i'd say this but i wished Adam Sandler would have taken her out on 50 first dates. This movie was too much drama and got on my nerves. There were so many "villains" i wanted to gag. I full on closed my eyes for ten minutes and imagined myself somewhere else. I hope it doesn't take an accident to make me forget i ever saw this movie. Sorry for the rant but i feel better. sigh.

This Means War - Review - 3.5/5 stars

I went to the screening of This Means War this week. I had no opinion of what to expect. That's not true. If anything it looked kinda dumb. But it was free so why not check it out. Totally enjoyed it. It's one of those movies your brain either decides to accept or reject. Meaning it has potential to go either way. And i accepted it. The premise is really kinda dumb and predictable. But i thought Reese, Tom Hardy and Chris Pine were really fun to watch. The two guys played off each other really well, while Reese took a back seat and was just cute. Chelsea Handler was at times really funny but other times i just thought she was too crude. This was directed by McG so you know off the bat what kind of movie this is. His other works are Charlies Angels, Terminator Salvation, Chuck. See? As i said, it has everything you think you might hate about it but if you're in the right mood you might enjoy it like i did.

The Woman In Black - Review - 2.5/5 stars

On Tuesday i went to the screening of Woman in Black. While i could see up Daniel Radcliffs nose from the second row, i will try to not let that influence my review. Have you seen the trailer for this movie? I thought it looked really good for a scary movie. In actuality, it was just okay. I loved the look and feel of it. What it lacked however, was enough story to keep me interested. It was full of loud noises and "don't go in that room" moments. Some of which will make you jump, most of which were cheap thrills without bringing anything new to the horror genre table. Daniel does a fine job. Not that this movie required much of him. Teenagers will most likely get a kick out of this movie, but it needed more going on for me to really like it. So, not as bad as some horror movies but not as good as say...the ring!

Blog Introduction

Okay, so i have been wanting to start a blog for a while now. Not that i have much to say, but more that i want to document some things i've been doing or experiencing. Sort of a journal you might say. Anyway, i can only imagine what sort of things i might find interesting to post here. Probably lots of Halloween related things but i probably won't be able resist posting something delicious i ate or a critique of a movie. So here goes nothing.
