Some designs happen because I have an idea I want to get out of my head. Others happen because people keep asking for them.

This one is definitely the second kind.

After releasing my “Amaze Amaze Amaze” poster, I was honestly surprised by how much people connected with it. That design has become one of my biggest successes so far, and I think a lot of that comes from how much heart there is behind the quote. It is funny, strange, sweet, and somehow emotional all at once. For fans of Project Hail Mary, those words instantly bring back the feeling of the story — the humor, the wonder, and the unexpected friendship at the center of it all.

So naturally, once people started seeing that poster, the next request started coming in:

“Are you going to make a ‘Fist My Bump’ poster too?”

And honestly, how could I not?

This new poster is my take on that beloved quote — bold, playful, a little weird, and full of personality. I wanted it to feel like something you could hang in a kid’s room, a reading nook, a classroom, an office, or anywhere that could use a little more sci-fi joy.

The design uses big retro-inspired lettering with a soft vintage texture, giving it that slightly worn, printed feel I love. The blue letters are chunky and imperfect in the best way, stacked together almost like a handmade sign. At the bottom, the little rocky alien creature adds just the right amount of charm and humor. It is simple, but instantly recognizable to anyone who knows the story.

What I love most about this quote is that it captures something bigger than just a funny line. It is about connection. It is about friendship showing up in unexpected places. It is about learning how to understand someone completely different from you. And it is about those small moments in a story that stay with you long after you finish the book.

That is why I think Project Hail Mary has meant so much to so many people. Yes, it is full of science, space, danger, and adventure — but at its heart, it is about companionship, hope, and finding common ground. That is the feeling I wanted this poster to carry.

My goal with this piece was to make something that feels fun at first glance, but still has that deeper emotional pull for fans who know exactly what it means. It is the kind of print that can make someone smile every time they walk past it.

The success of the “Amaze Amaze Amaze” poster has been such a cool reminder that people love artwork that connects to stories they care about. I am so grateful for the response to that design, and I am excited to add this new companion piece to the shop.

Whether you are decorating a sci-fi themed space, looking for a gift for a book lover, or just want a little reminder of one of the best friendships in modern sci-fi, this poster was made for you.

“Fist My Bump” is now available in my Etsy shop.
