Nightmare Before Christmas Matching Shirts

I recently went to the Oogie Boogie Halloween Party at Disneyland and wanted matching shirts to wear for me and my boyfriend. I love Nightmare before Christmas so of course I had to do Jack Skellington. I just got black t-shirts and used a stencil I cut from my silhouette machine. Then I just used bleach. They came out awesome! I would just caution to not use too much bleach or it will eat holes in the shirt. I ended up doing a painted version.

Oogie Boogie shoulder bag

Have you ever been to the Halloween Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland? Well technically it takes place at California Adventure. Anyway, it is a lot of fun! My boyfriend and I dressed up as Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin. We got so many compliments and we had the best time. I have found that a small shoulder bag is a great item to bring when doing a Disneyland trip. You can keep a wallet and keys, hand sanitizer and snacks in there. I found this greenish bag at target and immediately saw potential to transform it into a themed Oogie Boogie bag. So here is the before and after. I had bought boogie boogie dice and didnt want to ruin them by putting in a screw so I made a mold and cast some new ones. It was a simple little project. Just mostly sewed some stitching along the edges. Made the dice keychains and ironed on the boogie boogie patch.

I made one of these out of pink insulation foam and I have a different blog post and how to about that one. But hes rough and I wanted to make a better one and one that I can easily make copies of for people that want to rent of purchase him. So this is my process on this version. Turned out great! Beauty and the Beast Makeup

Gina came over and we looked up different makeup ideas on Pinterest and found one for half beauty and half beast. We loved the idea and so we tried it out. We are pretty happy with the results. It was such a fun to do. We even turned on a live Instagram video and a few people watch the process which was cool to do.

Disney Pixar Up Costume in NYC!

So a few weeks ago I got an email that looked like spam to me. But hesitant to delete it, i read a few lines and discovered it wasn't spam at all. It was an email from these guys in NYC. They were interested in my Carl Fredricksen costume for a film they wanted to make. They told me they had a drone and some other cool camera equipment so I was interested immediately in their project.

We soon got on the phone with each other and discussed the details. Next thing I knew, I was packing up Carl and shipping him away for another adventure. Last time he traveled he went to Florida. So it turns out that Mr. Fredricksen is living the life that he portrayed in the movie after all. Seeing and doing and exploring.

That was the purpose of the video these guys made. To spread positivity and happiness and put a smile on those who view it. So take a look, share with your friends and spread this message. Follow them on social media and subscribe to their youtube page. Info below. My info is in orange.

Haunted Mansion Self Portrait

Ok so i've had the dream to one day have a portrait done of me and my dog. Like the kind you would see at Disney's haunted mansion. You know, where it seems like a nice normal painting but then you look closer and find all sorts of creepy spooky things. And if I was to have this done then I wanted it done big and done right. I smile at the thought of who will get this painting when I die and how many generations will it be passed down to? "Thats great great great grandpa Mason."

Well I work with a very talented painter Amber McRae. And I knew I needed to make the dream happen. So we made a plan.

We started with a quick photo shoot of me and my dog in a regular office chair in various poses. Our goal was to get a feel for lighting and also a reference for her to paint me in a sitting pose.

We collaborated on all the things we could have going on in the painting and created a couple style guides.

Then I took that photo and began to do some graphic design work on it to give her even more ideas on exactly the layout and look what I was going for. This is what I came up with:

Amber then took my digital mock up and ran with it. She ordered a very large custom canvas and began to get to work. Her goal was to have it done by my birthday on Oct. 3rd. I could hardly wait. She would only give me small little detail photos as to not spoil the surprise. Ready for the big reveal? Here it is all finished and in all its incredible glory!!

I'm giddy every time I go up the stairs. I love love love it! A custom hand painted portrait of me and my dog Brooks. Follow him @kingbrookscavalier on instagram! Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum Costumes

Every year for Halloween, my brothers company go all out and create a themed walk thru for family and friends. This year their theme was Alice in Wonderland. He and his boss were to dress up as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. So its been tradition to make the costume and not just go and buy it. At first we thought it wouldn't bee too hard. Just a couple paper maché heads. Well, we ran into a bunch of problems and even started over on one. But we tried to take pictures along the way in case any of you would like to try your hand at making them.

We began with a big balloon. Then we added the mouth shape with craft foam. Then we added the eyes and nose from styrofoam balls shaped how we liked. Then we found plastic bowls that made the perfect hats. We added a brim to the hats and rounded them off with tin foil. We didn't want perfectly round shaped heads so we gave it some shape by using plastic bags. Then we paper machéd both heads and a few layers of it. We wanted them to be strong and last so we applied a curing plastic coating to them but you could skip that step. We added hair by carving shapes out of white packing foam. Then we primed them both for paint and painted them. We quickly made "this way" and "that way" signs for the characters to hold.

I'm happy with how they turned out but learned a lot along the way. I would first begin by paper maché the balloon before adding the mouth and shape to it. Let it dry completely. The problems we had were that the balloon would expand and contract. One balloon even had a hole so we had to start over after we had gone so far. We initially thought a plaster would give us the strength we wanted but it just chipped and flaked off.

Carl Fredricksen from Up movie - Halloween Costume and How To

Thats me as Carl Fredricksen! Okay so this costume has a funny beginning. At work we thought it would be fun to choose a theme that we should all come dressed as. Well, things got confused and voting wasn't exactly accurate and we ended up with a Disney theme. I had no idea what i would be. I love to create my costumes and not just buy them out of a bag. I ended up seeing a similar costume of Carl Fredricksen online and decided i could do that. I needed to get it started because i knew it would take time and i had a lot of other things going on. Well, halfway through the process, my work cancelled the Disney theme. I decided i had better just keep going with what i started. I love the way it turned out and it was a lot of fun to be him as a character. I mimicked his walk and talk and even had the UP theme music playing from my coat pocket.

On Halloween at work i was told that someone saw my costume picture on Facebook and sent it to someone they knew who was dressing up their little boy as the cute boy scout from the movie. I was told they wanted a picture of us together. So sure enough the parents of the cutest little boy showed up and we had a little impromptu photo shoot of us together. Melted my heart how cute he was and how he would look at me. I've since become friends with Anita Fowler and her husband Mylo and their adorable little Denali. We've so much enjoyed the attention our hand crafted costumes received. What a great Halloween it was.

My friends wanted to join in the fun and so in just a weeks time they put together their costumes of the rest of the UP characters including the house. We were quite the hit at a big singles party.
