Carl Fredricksen from Up movie - Halloween Costume and How To

Thats me as Carl Fredricksen! Okay so this costume has a funny beginning. At work we thought it would be fun to choose a theme that we should all come dressed as. Well, things got confused and voting wasn't exactly accurate and we ended up with a Disney theme. I had no idea what i would be. I love to create my costumes and not just buy them out of a bag. I ended up seeing a similar costume of Carl Fredricksen online and decided i could do that. I needed to get it started because i knew it would take time and i had a lot of other things going on. Well, halfway through the process, my work cancelled the Disney theme. I decided i had better just keep going with what i started. I love the way it turned out and it was a lot of fun to be him as a character. I mimicked his walk and talk and even had the UP theme music playing from my coat pocket.

On Halloween at work i was told that someone saw my costume picture on Facebook and sent it to someone they knew who was dressing up their little boy as the cute boy scout from the movie. I was told they wanted a picture of us together. So sure enough the parents of the cutest little boy showed up and we had a little impromptu photo shoot of us together. Melted my heart how cute he was and how he would look at me. I've since become friends with Anita Fowler and her husband Mylo and their adorable little Denali. We've so much enjoyed the attention our hand crafted costumes received. What a great Halloween it was.

My friends wanted to join in the fun and so in just a weeks time they put together their costumes of the rest of the UP characters including the house. We were quite the hit at a big singles party.

If you're interested in how i made the Carl costume, here is a how to i put together. Sorry its not more detailed but it should give you the idea.

I've started to make another one and so i've tried to take more pictures that might help you out if you are making one. I live in Midvale, UT so message me if you would like to rent the costume for Halloween, or Birthday parties or asking someone to a dance.

This costume is available for rent. Please feel free to inquire.

  10. Hi I love this! I wanted to make it this year and am wondering what colors you used?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hello! I used acrylic paint. I couldn't tell you what colors specifically as it has been a while. I know I bought a flesh colored paint but had to mix light brown in it so it wasn't so pink. Good luck! I'd love to see it.
